#Kuwait - Fahaheel

Poor they might be...
....but most are happy in their own way.
The guy at the clothes stand took up the opportunity for some free advertisement ;-)

#Kuwait - Doctors orders

Not necessarily photography wise, but have fun, nourish the inner child.
Exactly that was an issue for me these past few weeks. I don't know why. There were days when it worked, but mostly I just didn't feel like it.
Maybe because people here are not used to smiling foreigners with cameras in their hands. Crazy folks, those smiling people, you know.
Anyway, this morning after replying to Ron that things are still on the funky side I asked myself 'WtF'?! Yes, those words, booh on me ;-)
I grabbed the camera, said byebye to the irritated pooches and went out.
Only half an hour, but well worth it.
My mood is considerably better ;-)
Anyhow, this is what I came up with today.
Not my final post yet, even though I am late, but I want to follow up on an idea in my head and still have to put it together.
Hope you get some smiles out of the photos.

#Kuwait - Expat culture
![]() |
| From Kuwait 2013 |
Here I am, thinking it is a cool idea to take up Jake Johnson's weekly challenge
for a short photo assignment. He asked me to take a 'cultural street photograph
from wherever I am at the moment'.
Well, I am in Kuwait.
Getting photos of Kuwaiti culture isn't easy to come by.
You would have to go to the few heritage sites that are left in the city center.
BUT, he did say from wherever I am, right?
I am in Mangaf, that's down further in the South of Kuwait.
A place where some years ago, Kuwaitis didn't set foot in and didn't even visit
their relatives when they were fallen from Grace and had to move here for financial reasons or other.
It's the Corner where most Expats live, at least lower labor workers
(correct me, if I'm wrong, which you folks will do, I'm sure).
There for sure are more Expats here than Kuwaiti folks.
So, I figured, I take a photo of what has become the cultural scene for me.
Asian Expats at work. Two street cleaners in the front and car mechanics in the back.
Easy snapshot you say. It is. In a way.
For me though, as a woman, it is not exactly that easy to ask these guys for a photo.
I usually don't and just steal one.
So, one challenge for me was to overcome my unwillingness to ask :-)
The lighting of course sucked and the weather is still hazy, so, no matter where
I would have gone today, I would not have been overly happy.
What I do and did like though, were their smiling faces
(before, during or after, they all smiled at one point).
I know, you all would have liked to see something different.
Maybe.
But sometimes you have to go with what you get.
Even with mosques for example, as a Non-Muslim you can
(unless you have the patience to find it out) never really tell, who goes there to pray.
The one in my approximate neighbourhood for example is visited predominantly
by Egyptian worshipers (and I don't even know if it's Sunni or Shiite - I think Shiite).
Now, enough talking. I think I had too much sunshine, so excuse this little waterfall of words ;-)

#Finger on the Trigger

Happy construction
I finally went out to play yesterday. Adding some shots to my #fingeronthetrigger collection.
No people got harmed during the shooting
These guys had a blast while unloading their stuff. I went by, shooting from the hip. I found their clothing very fascinating, wonder where they come from.
The guy on top flashed me a big smile and I would have loved to take his Portrait.
But me being a woman, that would send out all the wrong signals.
sigh

Quote one of the (so called) guards at our ap. complex this morning:
Oh, you look better in long pants, half pants make you look much older!
Well, Ladies, now we know.
Thank goodness!

#365 - 048 / Liberation day preparations

Next week is Kuwait Liberation day.
Celebrations are pretty much all months long, with kids dressing up, flags and all.
Whoever wants to go into the city on the actual Liberation day needs to prepare to be stuck in a motorcade for hours with their cars ending up full of foam and other 'decorations' ;)
I'll try to catch some more photos next week, it's fun to watch.
But no, thanks, I won't go into town. At all. ;)

#365 - 040 / Streets of...

A new project I started today.
I can't take much credit for these photos.
The camera is set on auto mode,
hanging from my hip and the finger is on the Trigger.
The photos you see are the results from my strolls.
Taking photos of people around here can backfire,
especially when you are a woman.
But I do want to show you some people.
So, this is my solution :)
