#Handmade - Iced Jacket

From Handmade
Notes
Using the yarn from my frogged oversized Cardigan (read - I made it about 10” too big ;-))
Frogging while knitting since it takes forever :-)
Started this morning and it knits fast so far.
This is my first try for a Raglan and also my first for a Top-down Cardi.
One day later and I’m 3/4 finished with the body.
I love fast knits :-)
OK, finished - next time I will pick up ALL stitches along the border, not 3 out of 4 as the pattern suggests. It looks ok, when worn correctly, I just wanted to show that it IS a tad short…..
I would also decrease at least two more stitches for the arms to make them a tad tighter at the bottom.
Anyway, I love the pattern and the fit!
Make sure you go by the pattern suggestion and choose the bigger size!
And keep measuring while you knit.

#Handmade - Shawlette Wellenreiter

Stitch pattern from ’1500 patterns’ - I am sure there’s already a shawlette out there, designed like this.
I just had this in my head & it needed to come out :-)

Should I add some buttons? Should I write a pattern?

#Handmade - Banana bag

Made with 'Banana yarn' from Nepal - gift from a friend.
The yarn is made from the fibers of the Banana tree trunk.
The old parts of the tree trunk are peeled off, soaked and then worked into fiber.....or something like that :-)

The bag's small, but big enough for small projects or just 'stuff' :-)

#Handmade - Coachella Top

Free pattern on Ravelry

Looks much better on me than on No-Boob Emma ;-)
From Handmade
Notes
CO 202st with 2.5mm needles….what a pain….!
:-)
I hope I don’t have a twist,…
Didn’t have a twist, but managed to get one in after the arms when joining everything.
I caught it in the third row, never knit stuff like this when tired.
I left it though and just knit straight over.
There’s a little bump, but I can live with that ;-)
That’s just me :P
From Handmade
I did up the number of st to 220, I hope it all works out. Trying it on with the cable needles is for some reason a pain itb this time.
At the next shaping part I reduced the st to 210.
And following the pattern from there.
I should have added another Inch, going on 23” instead 22” before knitting the last 6 rows.
The strap in the back could have been a bit longer too.
That’s what you get when you don’t do a gauge and just go ‘pi thumb’ ;-)
Funny, this yarn knits much more even in stockinette when knitting through the back loop.

Looks much better in real Life than here :) Odd angle, sigh!

#Handmade - Sockalicious

Finally a pair finished again :-)
This one's for me.
I really dig the 2-socks at a time (toe-up) method.
They always fit and are comfy and I can knit until the yarn's finished, if I want to :-)
Plus, it takes only half the time as normal socks, no kidding.

#Handmade - Wannabe Aran Sweater

From Handmade

From Handmade

Original idea by EZ's Aran Sweater,
Cables from Mon Tricot, 1500 patterns.

Project Notes:

Finished with short sleeves.
Had to crochet twice around the neck line, still a bit wide, made a mistake while casting off - not thinking it through, sigh :-)
One crochet border along the bottom. The cotton is quite loose.
23.03.2014
Note to Self: Three needle bind-off = on right side (meaning turn thing to wrong side and knit together, sigh)
23.01.2014
Finally picked up this piece again.
Of course I made a mistake with my border cables.
Not knitting back, since that would cause more trouble with the big cable than it’s worth. It might still be early enough to ‘fix’ it. We shall see.
Made a mistake with those cables anyway, since the pattern says to switch the two rows, I didn’t.
But I actually like my version better anyway :-)
Need to take some new photos.
13.01.
It’s coming along nicely, minus some gaps between right and left stitches. But not everywhere. Not sure what’s going on. I leave it as is, since it almost looks like a pattern and I’ll most likely wear something underneath anyway.
Have switched to a 3.75mm in row 24 (can’t find a free 3.5mm - and in the end for the Cotton that’s the better option)
At row 26/27 I’ll start skein Nr. 3 - I have 7 left.
I am debating with myself, but I think the CotLin yarn will be enough after all. Measuring up to the neck it will be approx. another 4-5 skeins. Even with 5 that leaves me two for the arms. Since I wanted to do short sleeves anyway, that would work.
I think I’ll risk it.
11.01.
Started with the pattern. Had to wrap my brain around the ‘how to work a flat pattern in the round’, aka do I need to knit an extra round or what. Answer: yes
The cables are all easy though, so it’s just an extra knit round as replacement for the ‘wrong side row’.
Phew! :-)
10.01.
Finished with the ribbing and deciding on the pattern.
Decisions, decisions,… :-)
09.01.
The green yarn it is and it most likely will be a sweater with cables at the far sides front, colourwork in the ‘middle’, will save me the decrease since I’ll switch to 3.5mm needles for that (the light green yarn is a wee bit thinner).
I still have to figure out how I’ll do the back and how that will work with the colourwork. Hm…
Am thinking of a ‘leaf border’ at the neck.
Lots of ideas, we shall see.
I am switching the name to ‘Wannabe Aran Sweater’, since the definition of an Aran is a bit different from what I am planning to do. Big cables or patterns just don’t work too well on my bust, I’m afraid ;-)
04.01.
Or the green yarn after all….?
Found a mix that might work.
02.01.
Am switching to the Ice yarns Yak / Merino mix.
Much thinner, but much more yarn ;-)
Will take some fiddling to find the right stitch number, but at least I’ll have enough yarn ;-)
01.01.
Not sure about the yarn. Need to double check and maybe switch to a different one. It will defo not be a Sweater, but a T-Shirt, but that would be ok.

#Handmade - Recycled burlap bags

Two more recycled Burlap bags finished - coffee bags, I think :-)

The first one is really big, but perfect for summer to come with a long strap,
so it's comfy to carry big water bottles (and your knitting) around.

The smaller one is more a basket.
Currently I store my spindle and wool for spinning in there (not that I have tried spinning yet)....

#Handmade - Round jacket

My not so round Emily Bronte Topper finally had his finishing touches.
I might give this one a second try one day with different (more loose) yarn,
since I really like the end result.

Well, you can look at the original free pattern from Lion Brand Yarn, it IS nice ;-)

I DO like wearing my version too though. It turned out square a first and by far not wide enough to make real arms. I just sew together the to end corners with the sides, so I had some arm holes.
Then made a 10 stitch border around (should have used more) by picking up stitches along the way.

#Handmade - DIY stuff with garlic

The other day I had to make use of a bunch of garlic and came upon a recipe for garlic paste.
You can adjust the amount to your liking, I used about 5 pieces of garlic and had only Cilantro, but it worked.

500g garlic
100g parsley
100g chives
100g sea salt

peel garlic, wash the herbs, let them dry a bit
put all together in mixer, fill in clean jars and keep in a dry, cool, dark place (mine's in the fridge)
But if you have a pantry that fits the above, will work as well.
Paste lasts for approx. a year

From Handmade

(Knoblauchpaste Rezept auf Deutsch)

What I used it for

Garlic butter
Just add the paste to some butter and mix well

From Handmade

For spicing Veggies

For homemade salad dressing

Just use half a tsp of the paste, add about 6 tbsp of water, apple cider vinegar and about 4 tbsp of olive oil,
salt and pepper - adjust to your liking.

A healthy alternative to the ready made bags. Just check the ingredient list of the bags:
Sugar, Flavor enhancer, Lactose, potato starch, palm oil, more cheat flavours, ...

#Handmade - Detox Juice and Face mask

Two quick and easy things I made today.

Lemon Juice freshly pressed with some water.
Helps to detox your body - more Info here.

I'll do a longer 'real' detox some time next week for a few days.
At least I hope I can manage a few days :)

From Handmade

And a face scrub, using up the last bits of sugar that are left in the cupboard
(banned from the kitchen for food since a few weeks) and some fresh pressed lemons.
Rise and shine :-)

#Handmade - 0815 Yoga socks

Finished some quick Yoga socks, each one took about max. 3hrs.
Now, only Yoga is missing ;-)
I don't know why I absolutely wanted socks like this.
They were itching me to make them since a while
and yesterday I decided to use the thick Leftover yarn for it.
Not perfect, but comfy

#Handmade - Korb

Made a little basket for either projects or Leftover yarns (or anything else),
out of Sisal / packaging thread.
A bit tough to work with at the beginning and rough on your hands, but after a while it gets easier.

If you need a 'How to', drop me a note.

#Handmade - Another handbag

Another handbag, recycled from a rice bag (including the zipper).
I need to fix a few stitches at the bottom (too thick for the machine, I screwed up and should have cut that part) & also need to sew the zipper ends by hand.
But I really, really love this one!

I love these, so warm & comfy (I screwed up the sewing together part,
but heck, it works,...)
