Workshop, Week 1, day 3

Today started with me feeling all yucky, nose, head, coughing and all.
I did NOT feel like picking up the camera at all.
But the weather is freakin' awesome today, sunshine and blueblue skies.
And after some coffee and inspiring comment reading over on G+ I figured I should give that camera a ride on the next dog walk.

First thing coming out of the house I saw was a sight I see every day, a bunch of times.
Today the tones and angles just struck me and I tried to capture it.
With Ron's recipe of shooting, pausing, thinking, (for me add breathing), and shooting again after changing some angles.

Somehow my eyes popped open in the last 3 days. It seems I had them closed for a long while.
My angle on Photography has slipped into a routine. I still loved it, took my camera mostly everywhere.
But the aspect of shooting had changed.
Maybe it was trying to please the people that read my blogs, or later the new folks on G+.
Maybe it was the aspect of shooting something sellable?
Birding came into the game too. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but it did get into the way of me evolving on my path. I think, I used it as an excuse to NOT go further. To NOT get better.

Maybe that is one reason I chose the photo from 2010 in Egypt for my showcase album for the workshop.
I think at around that time I somewhat sent my Inner artist (or Artist child, whatever you want to call it) down into the dark caves, hiding.

From Portfolio

From around that time on, I barely worked in my shops and barely posted any travel photos.

Well, I am back now.

I chose to go to an abandoned, wrecked car nearby today.
On my way there I already saw a few tiny things that struck me as enjoyable to shoot in the sunlight.
At first I didn't really listen to that voice and called it 'stupid'.
Then I just did it.
Like in the good old days.
Bend down, shoot rusty spots, weird things on the ground, oddities.

I did let my Inner child have some fun.

So, my word of advice to you (if you are still reading): Listen to your inner voice (whatever you call that Babe) and do what it tells you.
Treat it with respect, don't scare it off by acting all great and grown up.
Go, have fun!
:)

I sure made a few people wonder about my mental health today ;)

    1. Thank you.
Now, that is an idea there =)

The theme this week fits right in with a book I've worked through the past year.
My approach to shooting was always a try different angles way, for some reason it changed a bit over the years and it's good to have that inner voice whispering again =)

    2. we get off track not in one big leap, but in a subtle shift that is hard to detect, after a while we look back and see we have strayed. Glad you're getting back on track!

Did you btw. read the book 'The Artist's way' by Julia Cameron?
Some of your words this week reminded me of it so much =)
